Can anyone give me some examples of jazz guitar chords?
I will join the jazz band at school next year, and as my last year of high school, I want to improve my skills on guitar, playing in a jazz band. However, I am familiar with the standard guitar chords, but I know that jazz guitar has more than one sharp or flat feel to it. if someone can give me a chord or two, or perhaps a list if you want, that would be great. if someone have any advice on jazz guitar, it would also be helpful. thanks!
Just to add to what cettise2 said that if you are already familiar with the construction of chords by formulas of chords and tones of the scale, you will find this helpful. Here is a list of some of the most common chords used in jazz: M7 major chord root (R), 3 (3), 5 (5) and 7 (7) M6 R, 3, 5, 6 M9 R, 3, 5, 7, 9 [ The 9th is D in the scale of C major. Therefore, CM9 = C, E, G, B, D. Count 'em this way: C (1), D (2), E (3), F (4), G (5), A (6), B (7), C (8), D (9) .] CHORDS Minor M7 R, b3, 5, b7 (That would be C, Eb, G and Bb if you were to build a Cm7 chord.) M6 R, b3, 5, 6 M9 R, b3, 5, b7, 9 7 th CHORDS 7 R, 3, 5, b7 9 R, 3, 5, b7, 9 13 I, 3, 5, b7, 9, 13 7 # 5 R, 3, 5, b7 7B5 R, 3, B5, B7 7 # 5B9 R, 3, 5, B7, B9 13b5b9 I, 3, B5, B7, B9, 13 (for chords with several extensions, depending on your choice in line expressing some tones are optional and may not be reproduced.) SYNTHETIC CHORDS decreased R, B3, B5 R increased, 3, # 5 m7b5 (mean decreased R), B3, B5, B7 Chord OT should also study how Replacing these chords can be applied to greater effect. I hope help.
